Taos Ski Valley is the best most challenging mountain for serious skiers period. There is so much steep double black terrain all compact and easy to access, and being in the southern Rockies, the climate can't be beat. The snow is always that high altitude dry powder. The proximity to high dessert keeps the powder dryer longer than any place I've skied. The Kachina peak lift at nearly 12,500 ft gives lift service to another one third of the mountain more double black terrain within the park. At every level of the mountain you will find black and double black skiing, and tree runs are numerous all over the mountain. When the storms track through TSV you cannot find a better mountain for the skier looking for challenge and pure fun. Also the beauty of TSV and the whole of northern NM is unreal, but that is a whole other topic.... Recensione completa
I came to Taos for 2 months during Covid, and have been somewhat disappointed. First of all, the quality of lifts is really bad for a "world class" resort. For this relatively big mountain, there's only one high speed quad and no gondola type lifts going up the mountain. If you aren't going to invest in lifts like the big boys, then you can't charge the same lift ticket prices as the big boys! I don't want to spend half my time on lifts losing my warmth. 7a and 7b are especially terrible old lifts, quite rickety and very high off the slopes with no bar. Next, because the mountain is so far south, it had to be designed to face north to retain any snow, leading to a lot of skiing in some harsh shadows where it's hard to see what you're skiing on. Next, I thought skiing in the desert would be great for some soft dry powder. But that was my mistake - being so far south means a ton of melting and refreezing. Powder turn to crusty crap right away. The top lift has been closed all season. I havent done any of the chutes up top ridge which may be awesome but the rest of the mountain is so-so. Next, terrain park isn't in order this Covid year. What does terrain park have to do with covid? If you aren't going to have the bells and whistles, don't charge full price. Anyways, if investing a lot of money in a family trip, I def recommend Utah or Colorado or one of the other legit mountains instead. Taos is a tier below.... Recensione completa
I know there hasn't been a lot of snow this year. I know covid is hard to deal with. That does not mean that every single employee I interacted with while at TSV was incredibly rude. Ski patrol was rude and very unprofessional when my sister needed assistance down the mountain after dislocating her hip. Most of the reason we chose to take a family trip to Taos instead of staying in Colorado was to ride some park, everything I saw on your website said the park was open and groomed. There's no jumps, no rails, no features at all. Would've been great to know that before my family spent $2k on a weekend trip here. Asking people to wear a mask under their own face mask is unscientific. Why did I have to pull down my own face mask while one of TSV employees got within 4 feet of me to lecture me on how I needed a cloth mask under my mask? The cloth mask I was given by a TSV employee to wear was wrinkled up, dirty, and in a zip lock bag. I don't think that complies with CDC guidelines, but what do I know. I approached the ticket office to ask if I could get vouchers for our unused lift tickets, after being told no, I had the little window slammed while I was mid conversation. I never have been treated this badly at a ski resort. I'm very disappointed in Taos Ski Valley. ... Recensione completa
Skied Taos before there were the restaurants on the mountain and had to come down off the mountain to eats or use restrooms but it was magical. To reach the West basin you had to take a little narrow trail across Reforma and Blitz to get there and then had to ski to the bottom. Coming into the village seemed like in another country and everybody was great. When my daughter was 6 put her in school with a great 18-19 year old girl ( Carmen) from Germany as her teacher and Alison was flying down intermediate runs with no abandon. Everybody needs to find and buy "Ski Pioneers" book to get the true sense of the Taos Mystic.
I have ruined both of my 72 year old knees from having a great times with bad results and have not skied since getting knee replacements but will try to get back this year and try to stay off blacks and just cruise.
Many thanks to the Ernie Blake and all family members for creating this extra special ski haven and making great memories for me.

Good skiing, have lost their way over the years as a skier friendly mountain. Seems more about the profits now than servicing the guests. Case in point, refused to honor a season pass we could not use due to early closing because of Covid-19. Trip was mid-late March so we lost all our money when they closed early. Pass not extended to 2020-2021. ... Recensione completa
I havn't skied Taos in a number of yrs;candidly, I'm sure I can't enjoy it like I used to. I skied there for 25+ yrs. It's the most challenging mountain you'll ever ski; combined with a vibe that can't be matched. There is a sense of accomplishment skiing here that is unmatched anywhere.
Simply put, skiing here is a sport, not a service. If that appeals to you, book it. ... Recensione completa
I grew up skiing Taos so excuse me if I am a little biased. Although Taos looks incredibly daunting from the bottom, I can personally guarantee that kids can learn to ski here. There are plenty of greens and blues for anyone to learn on. As for the advanced skier, there is a plethora of options. Both Highline ridge and West basin are well renown for having some of the best terrain in the region. My personal favorites are the glade runs, as they are some of the best I have skied anywhere in the nation. For the advanced skier, I would recommend runs such as Billy Sol and Walkyries Glade. In terms of the culture, it doesn't have the glitz and polish of Vail and Beaver creek or any of the Colorado resorts. However, it does have the most authentic feel and people that I have experienced. The town is essentially a small adobe hippie village and is a must visit if you are not staying in it. Be sure to eat at Alley Cantina, Orlando's or Common Fire during your stay. In short, Taos is an Incredible mountain to ski for the entire family, especially in the spring. ... Recensione completa
First of all I would like to say Taos is a late season mountain and always has been. Those bitching about the snow conditions are probably going in Nov, Dec. Taos needs at least a 70" base or more to be at it's best and that usually comes later in the season Feb, March and April. Taos is also predominantly a expert mountain with many black and double diamond runs. Taos also has plenty of courderoy groomers that stay groomed all day sometimes due to uncrowded slopes. Many new lifts and upgrades have been put in over the last 5 years by the new owners. If you are all about the skiing and don't mind the lack of the luxury B.S. and amenities that Colorado has then Taos is one of the best. No Frills , Friendly folks, Great food and simply some of the best skiing in the Rockies. Taos is absolutely world class in terms of "Skiing", so all you rich folks please stick to your , Breck, Vail, Aspen, Etc Etc Etc and leave this hidden gem for folks that have a passion for actual skiing....
