While the true beginners learn how to ski with well-trained and knowledgeable instructors on the beginner's slope, Woods Hole, the more adventurous beginners can try Salamander. A 2+-mile green cruising trail, Salamander is probably the best-known trail on Herz Mountain. Starting at the top, it offers spectacular views of the valley while meandering down the eastern side of the mountain, not stopping until you reach the lifts again. Intermediate skiers will find Dew Drop and the newest trail, Twister, to be challenging blue terrain while again providing breathtaking views stretching for miles. Timberline Four Seasons Resort also caters to the advanced skier and snowboarder. Silver Streak, Off The Wall, The Drop and two terrain parks all provide ample opportunities for the adrenalin junkies to get their fix of moguls, jumps and, challenging runs during their time on Herz Mountain. Don't forget the glades where the natural snow stays between the trees for the best to test their skills. There is also a plethora of cross country and backcountry trails for the Nordic skier and snowshoer. Our backcountry trails connect with White Grass Outdoor Nordic Center and trails located in the Dolly Sods Wilderness Area of the Monongahela National Forest and Canaan Valley Wildlife Refuge.
