As the only resort located on the west shore of Lake Tahoe, Homewood is considered by some to be a "local's mountain" where Tahoe residents, as well as well-informed visitors, can ski and ride far away from long lift lines and crowded slopes. It is well known for it's stunning views of Lake Tahoe and some say it almost feels like you are going to ski right into the lake it's so close. Homewood might not have the vertical drop or the natural snowfall of larger Tahoe resorts but their vertical of 1650 feet and snowfall average of 450 inches is still pretty darn good. A good balance of terrain, consistently decent weather, and the relaxed feel of Homewood make it a favorite for families and casual winter sports fans although true experts may not find as many challenges here as they might like. Terrain Homewood is a great mountain to learn and improve on with the majority of the terrain designated as beginner or intermediate, 15% and 50% respectively. Rentals are available and there are a number of lesson options for children and adults. The best part for beginners is that they don't have to miss out on the incredible views from the top of the mountain, just take Rainbow Ridge to Homeward Bound from the top. If fact, no lift at Homewood is off limits for the novices since there is at least one easy way down from each one. However, it is the intermediate level skier or rider that will really love all that Homewood has to offer because most of the mountain is for them. And while the knock on Homewood may be there are no long advanced trails there is still plenty of high level terrain such as Hobbit Land and Quail Face to keep you busy. There are dining options on the mountain as well as plenty more places to eat nearby. Lodging can be found all around the lake with the closest places to Homewood about five minutes away.
