Dodge Ridge is one of the closest and most easily accessible mountains for people in the Bay Area and the Central Valley of California. Plus, getting there doesn't require driving over any high mountain passes when you are coming from that direction. That accessibility has made Dodge Ridge a popular spot for Californians since it opened back in 1950. Now with a new twelve year development plan already in the works that includes new terrain, snowmaking, new lifts, new lodges and lights for night skiing and riding, Dodge is getting a modernizing facelift. Terrain Currently, Dodge Ridge relies on Mother Nature to let fall the 300-500 inches of snow the area typically averages in order to cover their 59 trails. Although the mountain plans to have snowmaking in the very near future, that is not yet a reality. Even still, that kind of snowfall is often all Dodge needs to create a fun, family-oriented, environment for newbies and veterans of the sport alike. Beginners will feel right at home at Dodge and don't have far to go after they pick up their rental equipment or book their lesson at the ski school, all of Dodge's green dots are right in front of the lodge and accessible from Chairs 1, 2 and 6. For starters head for Chair 6 which is slowed down to make loading easier. From the top of the lift head down Clementine for a nice mellow run. Ego Alley has a slightly steeper pitch to help beginners transition to the intermediate terrain on the upper mountain, and the first of 5 terrain parks is also in this area on Gentle Ben. Head up Chairs 3, 4 and 5 to get into the rest of what Dodge has to offer. For the intermediates in the group, check out Bone Yard or Comstock for some great groomed terrain or, after a good powder dump head to Waterfall or Woodstock for some ungroomed goodness. Speaking of powder, if you want something ungroomed but a little more advanced try Flume or Jackpot, or head over to Chair 8 for some of the really deep and difficult stuff. As you can probably tell, no matter what you ability level is Dodge Ridge is a great place to head after a storm. Off-slope Fun Leland SnowPlay located a short distance from the mountain is available for all your tubing, saucers and sledding needs. There are a number or shopping dining and lodging options about 30 minutes from the mountain in Twain Harte and even a casino in nearby Tuolumne.
