Slovakia presents itself to the world as “the small country with a big heart” in the centre of Europe. It has more than 300 ski areas to choose from, many of them are located in national parks, including a growing number of modern, medium-sized resorts with new lifts and extensive snowmaking all at reasonable prices.
But a visit to Slovakia is about experiencing a place. Outside the cities you can still find traditional villages, folk traditions and tourist trails meandering through the hilly countryside. Where in Europe, except in the Carpathians, can we still find the large remains of virgin mountain forests?
In Slovakia’s ski areas you will find usually excellent snow conditions, nice downhill runs, cross-country and ski mountaineering trails, freeride zones for extreme sports and also modern technical facilities made it possible for mountainous Slovakia to become one of central Europe´s most popular winter sport destinations.
Slovakia has been a member of the European union since 2003, and joined the Euro currency in 2009.
